Case Study: Solidaridad Network in Mozambique and Zambia Carrying Out Capacity Building Sessions for Farmers

Since 2021, Solidaridad Network has been utilising the SSM system in Zambia and Mozambique in order to support local farmers with better access to information and farming techniques as part of training and workshops organised in the rural regions. By accessing new type of information, farmers have been able to equip themselves with good practices and needed knowledge that has a direct positive impact on their farming practices and increases their crop production.

Providing Access to Information and Best Practices in Rural Regions

Solidaridad Network manages programmes in Southern Africa where the majority of the region’s populations live in rural areas and depend on agriculture for their livelihoods. In Mozambique and Zambia, Solidaridad has been focused in carrying out programs that support the usage of digital solutions that can build on existing tools and engage farming and mining communities while providing them with better access to information and best practices.

Rural communities are however hard to reach due to lack of transportation, roads and in general due to the often harsh environment and conditions, not to mention lack of access to electricity which makes working in these remote regions difficult. For this reason, having a portable energy solution that can work as a training center and digital school, can make the work easier and more practical for organizations such as Solidaridad Network.

By utilising digital solutions such as Tespack’s latest innovation Smart Solar Media (SSM) system, local farmers in Zambia and Mozambique can now access a wide range of content and information that supports their farming practices.

Tespack’s SSM System Supporting in Educating Around 22 000 Farmers in Mozambique

In Mozambique, in the Tete Province, Tespack’s Smart Solar Media (SSM) system has been used as part of the “Practice for Change” soy program where local farmers are being educated about best practices in regards to crop management and production, nutrition and gender equality. Tespack’s SSM system made it possible for Solidaridad to utilise audiovisual tools as part of their workshops and trainings sessions so that around 22 000 farmers were reached and could enjoy accessing new type of information and materials.

While in Zambia, Tespack’s SSM system has been utilised in the regions of Katete and Petauke where workshops have been carried out focusing on topics of pest and disease management as part of soy productions. By showcasing videos and other visual aid content, local farmers have been able to learn new farming techniques.

Achieved Benefits

Tespack’s SSM system has been developed to provide better access to digital content, in supporting agencies such as Solidaridad Network in carrying out workshops, trainings and capacity building sessions in rural regions. By having access to audiovisual content, Solidaridad Network has been able to utilise new type of materials and content as part of their workshops held for local farmers while having the opportunity to power their mobile devices and create energy form the sun by using Tespack’s high efficient portable solar panels.

New Partnership Announcement with World Vision

We are thrilled to share our recent partnership with World Vision, working together to provide sustainable and reliable energy solutions to communities in need. As a globally recognized organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and communities in need, World Vision is an esteemed partner in our mission to make a positive impact in Kenya, Uganda, and beyond.

Our collaboration with World Vision began in 2021 through a joint project with a Finnish NGO umbrella organisation Fingo, under their Power Bank program, connecting NGOs with private companies and tech solutions. We started our collaboration with World Vision Finland and under this program, World Vision Kenya began to use our Smart Solar Media (SSM) system during the end of 2021 as part of their training and capacity building programs.

We are also glad to share that World Vision Uganda started to use our SSM system earlier this year while World Vision in Rwanda and Zambia, as well as in Somalia under their Response Innovation Lab project, will also soon incorporate our systems in their ongoing community engagement and workshop activities.

Our SSM system has already helped to carry out training and workshops in remote communities, creating awareness about child marriage and FGM, and bringing community leaders and youth together through capacity-building sessions and visual aids. World Vision Kenya has also used our system at the Kakuma refugee camp as part of their food distribution program.

In the coming weeks, we will be launching a series of case studies to provide detailed progress updates on each project with World Vision. Stay tuned for more information on our partnership and the impact we are making in these communities.

It’s an exciting time for us, and we look forward to the continued growth of our partnership with World Vision.

Tespack Launching Partnership with UNDP Colombia

First Project in South America

We are excited to share our new partnership with UNDP (United Nations Development Program) Colombia, in supporting their work in strengthening the implementation of local and regional models in accessing justice in different municipalities in Colombia. During this Autumn their personnel received the first Smart Solar Media (SSM) systems to start working on the field while our CEO Mario Aguilera had the pleasure to visit the team during this month, in providing further training and support.

UNDP Colombia focused on the implementation of Local and Rural Justice Models

UNPD Colombia’s work focuses on different thematic approaches, one of them being towards strengthening the implementation of the Local and Rural Justice Models, in giving justice to the communities. While working under this program, UNDP Colombia discovered that one of the key challenges  within the model, the shortage of energy that can occur in a volatile way within the territories, can be a source of conflict. This means that institutions and Civil Society Organizations do not have alternative energy sources and cannot provide their services to the community and they are affected by the situations. In other words, there would be a need for a solution that can ensure access to services in the most remote parts of the country.

Tespack helping UNDP with the solution in Colombia

The Smart Solar Media System (SSM) is an all-in-one solution that combines hardware and software and can turn any room into a smart digital classroom at a very affordable cost while being highly portable. With the SSM system, educators and teachers can access different educational content while charging their mobile devices and generating energy from the sun.

The UNDP is among these organizations who use the SSM system to carry out lessons, workshops, training and other educational activities in rural regions. The UNDP department will be providing the SSM system for Civil Society Organizations and institutions that guarantee fairness to the community as part of their on-going work in ensuring justice in rural regions of Colombia.

Stay tuned as we will share more information and statistics about this project´s impact.

Partnering with ASEAD & Zenega Foundation

Bringing Digital Education to the Congo

Tespack is delighted to announce that we have partnered with ASEAD, Academy of Sciences and Engineering for Africa Development, and the Zenega Foundation under their BadmintONEarth project. This partnership will bring digital education and access to solar energy to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and seeks to improve the self-sustainability and livelihoods of children in the region while creating better opportunities and growth for the country.

Powering BadmintONEarth Project

BadmintONEarth project is the first reforestation and climate project in badminton, a project run by the Zenega foundation and ASEAD and supported by the professional badminton players Mrs. Miranda Wilson and Kai Schafer. The goal of the project is to create a positive impact in the rural communities in the Congo by educating and aiding them in the realm of self-sustainability. As the Zenega Foundation’s implementation partner in the Congo, ASEAD is currently working with local communities in the Congo by providing the people with better access to digital education and information through accessing new types of educational content. The locals are also being taught about how to become self-sustainable and how they can utilise solar energy.

Creating Impact in the Education Sector with the Smart Solar Media System

Together with ASEAD and the Zenega Foundation, funded and supported by the professional badminton players Mrs Wilson and Mr Schafer,  our goal is to create a positive impact within the communities in the Congo through the utilisation of our Smart Solar Media (SSM) system. The SSM system can turn any space into a digital classroom by accessing different types of educational content, which will help rural communities in the Congo to gain better access to  information. The BadmintONEarth project is essential in the Congo as more than 8.5 million children and adolescents are currently out of school. For this reason, we are thrilled for this collaboration as we believe we can together create lasting impact in the rural communities while continuing to support the future generations through better access to equal education.

Stay tuned as we will share more information and statistics about this project´s impact.

I also think this is one of the biggest opportunities to improve my skills. I am really looking forward to my time in Finland and am very motivated to learn as much as possible‘’

Meet Dylan Janssen from The Netherlands
‘’Hello all, my name is Dylan Janssen, 18 Years old from the Netherlands and I am currently studying International business studies at Deltion College in Zwolle. Meet Abderaghman de Groot from The Netherlands

‘’Greetings to everyone! My name is Abderaghman de Groot and I am an 18-year-old young adult. I am currently attending a course in International Business Studies at the Deltion College, in The Netherlands. I felt drawn to Tespack, in view of the fact that I hold the company’s purpose in high regard. Meet Artur Truve from Finland
I first heard about Tespack from my teacher, who recommended me to apply there for my internship. The same night I looked into what Tespack does and its products. I was stunned by the smart solar media system and was so excited to maybe get a chance to work on it during my internship.
During my time here at Tespack, I’ve come to really like the people I’m working with, the work I do and all the skills and experience I’m gaining and can use in the future to advance my career in my field.

Shaping the coming leaders and professionals
Part of Tespack’s culture is about leaving our footprint in the world. We aim to achieve this in various ways whether it is through our technology that enables people to achieve their goals in remote areas through our mobile energy solutions or helping the coming generation to become the future leaders in technology and entrepreneurship through our student programmes where they are fully mentored by the founder themselves.

As a company we understand the labor market is experiencing skill shortages in the technology side, as well as we live in a volatile market so it is important to equip our young generations with essential skills that will help them be prepared for the market demands.

Chosen As a Top UNDP Digital X Solution

Tespack is thrilled to announce that our Smart Solar Media System and software platform was chosen among the top UNDP Digital X Solutions.

The Digital X Solution Catalogue by United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) is the first marketplace for digital solutions – from UN organizations, social enterprises, NGOs, academia, and more – recommended by GPN and UNDP’s Chief Digital Office (CDO) to consider for use at the UNDP Country Office level.

The Digital X Solution Catalogue is a key component of UNDP’s Digital X: Partnerships for Scale Programme, created by UNDP’s CDO in collaboration with GPN and the Government of Japan. Digital X programme helps to find, match, and scale proven and innovative digital solutions with UNDP Country Offices and governments worldwide.

To create the first iteration of the Digital X Solutions Catalogue, UNDP mapped over 4,000 digital solutions from around the world. After a panel review with UNDP thematic experts, the Digital X Solutions Catalogue is now live with nearly 100 featured digital solutions in health, climate, gender, inclusive growth, crisis, and more to help their projects scale.

Tespack featured as a proven, ready-to-scale digital solutions

UNDP created the Digital X Solution Catalogue based on the needs and challenges they encountered from several UNDP Country Offices. The benefits of using the Digital X Catalogue is to find a ready-to-scale digital solution which shows to be proven and ready to scale:

1. ‘Proven’: the digital solution is mature in its product development, has significant ‘results in the real world,’ and has measurable and meaningful high-impact indicators linked to the Sustainable Development Goals.

2. ‘Ready-to-scale’: the digital solution is safe to use by thousands of users and can be deployed in a new country with minimal adaptation or effort, if the conditions for scale are met (like genuine government buy-in and language needs met).
